Caster Wheels in Real Life
Before caster wheels, if someone wanted something moved from room to room, they would have to move it manually. No matter how heavy it was, it would get done—or it wouldn’t depending on the circumstance. But that of course left the person, or perhaps people moving whatever it was that needed moving, with back aches and possibly even injuries.
In 1876, the first caster wheel was invented by David A. Fisher. It was a furniture caster. Now there are many caster wheels like stem casters, leveling casters, and medical casters. You may not always realize how valuable casters can be unless you need something moved easily and quickly.
The industry that probably uses casters most is healthcare. Hospital beds, carts, office furniture—almost everything in a hospital should be easily transportable. You never know when an emergency will arrive and what you need most is in another room. Instead of waiting for the equipment to be moved, it’s usually a matter of a few minutes (depending where it is) for the equipment to arrive. Caster wheels help save lives.
They also make our lives easier. They make moving furniture easy. When businesses need to move, caster wheels allow us to safely move office equipment quickly. At home, it allows for easy mobility of furniture, toy chests, kitchen carts, and more.
Casters are life savers. They maybe small, but the convenience they provide will make them one of America’s greatest inventions.
